Davena Beal

My name is Davena Beal. I began working in the mental health field in 1998 as a Registered Nurse in the Adolescent Inpatient Program at the Psychiatric Hospital at Vanderbilt in Nashville, TN. In 2001, I moved to Chicago and began working as a Registered Nurse at Rush University Medical Center in the Child and Adolescent Inpatient Unit. In 2016, I completed my Doctorate of Nursing Practice degree through Rush University College of Nursing and then began my career as a Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner at Comprehensive Clinical Services.

Although most of my previous experience is with children and adolescents, I also love working with the adult population. Each patient is an individual with a unique set of skills and strengths that evolve throughout the lifespan. I believe that learning and change are lifelong processes that can be both difficult and joyful. Health education is one of the most valuable functions of mental health care providers and serves as the key to the development of new habits and personal growth in our patients and ourselves. Outside of working in mental health, I enjoy reading, long-distance running, and sewing.
